With a history dating back to 1828, Sweetser is Maine's most comprehensive behavioral healthcare organization for children, adults and families. Sweetser offers services that address emotional disturbances, mental illnesses, behavioral disorders and learning disabilities through a network of educational programs, preventive services, community-support services, residential homes and outpatient services.
Working in more than 80 communities from Kittery to Bangor, Sweetser maintains counseling offices, a respected medical team, two schools for students with special needs, 17 residences, a training institute, a recovery center and campuses in Belfast, Plymouth and Saco. More than 800 employees and hundreds of volunteers are committed to our vision of helping people find promising futures.
Sweetser has maintained national accreditation with the Council on Accreditation since the founding of the organization in the 1970s, which is essential to guaranteeing our clients the best treatment and support possible. Only eight Maine human service organizations have met the group's standards for best practice and effective administration.
